Ed Mitchell
Lifetime Golf Professional Club Performance, Alteration & Repair Expert
Over 60-Years’ Experience as PGA Professional, Instructor, Inventor, Manufacturer, Writer, Educator & Caddy
Ed Mitchell is a Half Century member of the PGA of America. He got his start in golf as a caddy at the Country Club of Jackson, MI and worked into an Assistant Professional position there in 1962, where he served 8-years as the number one assistant.
Ed served as Head Golf Professional at 2 clubs in Michigan and as Director of Golf at 2 clubs in Florida. He developed and operated an Indoor golf center in Ohio for 10 years during his 30-year tenure as a club professional.
While operating the indoor golf center, Ed realized the need for a quality loft and lie bending machine that was missing in the golf industry. In 1988, at the beginning of an industry trend of custom fitting golf clubs, he developed a bending machine that became the industry standard. This spawned a new business of manufacturing club performance and repair machines and tools that still bears his name. The industry’s premier measuring and bending machines literally changed the way golf clubs are sold today.
For more than 20 years Ed has developed and conducted training programs in club building, repair, and fitting. Among his many accomplishments, he served on the national PGA Education Committee for 4 years, where he was instrumental in writing the curriculum for the club performance portion of the PGM program that was introduced in 2012.
A former member of the Golf Writers Association of America, Ed has authored many golf related articles on instruction and golf club performance and design. He was a presenter at the 2011 PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit, an instructor at several PGA Apprentice workshops, PGA Merchandise Show workshops, International Clubmakers Guild workshops, Professional Clubmaker Society workshops, PGA Junior Golf Academy, Canadian PGA workshops and developed & conducted certified training schools in club building, fitting and repair that he operated for 20-years.
Ed is a member of three golf related Hall of Fames: Southern Ohio PGA, International Clubmakers Guild and Jackson Golf Hall of Fame in Jackson Michigan. He also is a recipient of the Southern Ohio PGA Legacy Award.
